January 2022 News from the Board

We hope that this monthly communication to homeowners will serve to keep all informed of the activities of the Association and news around our neighborhood. We will add some graphics and make it fancier as time progresses. For this one, we just have a lot of good news to circulate!

Our Landscape Committee’s work and things you may have noticed

A special thanks to the Committee and a bunch of volunteers for this year’s revamped Christmas decorations. Especially Mike & Cindy Nicoloff who donated the poinsettias and Mike who walked up almost every night to reset the circuit! You may have also noticed that the Committee led the charge in getting some damaged trees removed and others trimmed to restore their health to improve the appearance of the entry to our community. Additional trimming of shrubs has allowed ground lights to better their job of lighting the landscape. In addition trees were trimmed and Spanish Moss removed to the left of our entrance as you exit to improve visibility of oncoming traffic.

The Landscape Committee consists of Diana Cummins and Cindy Nicoloff with Board oversight from Bart Francescone. Many thanks to the Committee and volunteers who helped put up the holiday decorations, volunteers included Brie and Robert Hutchinson, Lorelei and Clinton Francis, and Lisa and Bart Francescone. A big thankyou to Ivan Tobon who has provided storage for the decorations. If you are a gardener or would like to provide input on the appearance of our common areas please reach out to a Committee member and consider joining! New members are always welcome!

Safety and Security Committee

At our annual organizational meeting in November, the floor was opened to attendees to discuss what they felt the HOA’s highest priorities should be for our neighborhood. The clear winner involved concerns about the security and safety of our community. As a result, we have formed a Safety and Security Committee to discuss concerns and recommend solutions to the Board. We also included additional funds to our 2022 budget to be available for use once an action plan is put in place.

The Committee had its first meeting on January 16th. There was a very productive exchange of thoughts and ideas on how to make our community an even better place to live than it is today. Many topics arose during discussions with the Committee deciding to initially focus on six areas: Cameras, Perimeter Fencing, Security Services, Neighborhood Watch, Signage, and Expectations. Subcommittees were formed to more deeply explore camera options, perimeter fencing, and security services. Much more will be coming out of the research and discussions as we move forward. The Committee members bring a wealth of experience including backgrounds in law enforcement, security systems and familiarity with how ARB rules could impact the planning.

Members of the Committee include David Nahikian, Bob Schulte, Lorraine Robinson and Mike Cummins as its Board member. A few other homeowners have also agreed to provide advice based on their areas of expertise. All should realize that the HOA cannot assume responsibility for our community’s safety or guarantee security. It is not the HOA’s role. The security of each home belongs to the homeowner. However, having these discussions, conducting the research and taking specific actions based on Committee recommendations will be aimed at preventing crime and making our neighborhood a safer and more secure place. If you are interested in adding your voice and input to the planning please contact Mike Cummins. Stay tuned for more
